Babson, Lemonade Day Boston Now Offering Free Professional Development Training For Boston Public School Teachers
New opportunity as part of an array of exciting Lemonade Day entrepreneurship events and activities this spring
WELLESLEY, Mass., March 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Babson College and its signature community resource, Lemonade Day Boston, are hosting free trainings for Boston Public School teachers, each worth 2.5 Professional Development Points (PDPs). This opportunity is a brand new addition to Lemonade Day Boston entrepreneurship and life skills programing, one that no other Lemonade Day convener in the U.S. has yet to provide.
This teaching effort mirrors the foremost objective of the Lemonade Day initiative: to empower youth to take ownership of their lives and become productive members of society - the business leaders, social advocates, volunteers, and forward thinking citizens of tomorrow.
While earning free Diverse Learners Credits, teachers will be taught how to introduce entrepreneurship, basic business skills, and financial literacy to their students. Babson's Youth Entrepreneurial Program Team will help teachers explore enrichment opportunities and Common Core linkages that will allow them to incorporate Entrepreneurial Thought and Action(r) into their own classroom projects and activities.
Trainings will focus on the following topics:
- Defining entrepreneurship as a competency
- Fostering entrepreneurial thought strategies for creating discussion about entrepreneurship
- Developing educational field projects
- Introducing the Lemonade Day Curriculum: Tools for teaching entrepreneurship and promoting divergent thinking
When: Wednesday, March 18, 8:30-11:00 a.m. and 2:00-4:30 p.m.

Lemonade Day Boston, now in its 5th consecutive year supporting local youth, will involve upwards of 4,000 Boston students from Allston, Dorchester, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Roslindale, Roxbury, and beyond, thanks to the Babson community, Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and 19 area companies, foundations, agencies and philanthropists.
Celebrations will commence during a fun carnival-themed kick-off event on April 25, 2015 - the first of many entrepreneurial activities during a momentous seven-day stretch that will soon be known as 'Youth Entrepreneurship Week'. Lemonade Day Boston will officially take place throughout the city on Saturday, May 2, 2015. And on May 3, two local student teams will represent their schools and compete for the Babson Boston Cup after being selected for their new business ideas developed during the spring semester as part of the Babson Entrepreneurial Leadership Academy, an opportunity for students from Boston-area schools to learn about entrepreneurial thinking through the process of identifying, planning and launching a new venture to address an issue they have recognized.
