Babson College Achieves Gold Ratings In Sustainability
STARS Gold Rating recognizes substantial progress in all areas of campus sustainability
WELLESLEY, Mass., May 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Babson College's collaborative sustainability program has earned a Gold Rating through AASHE's Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System(tm) (STARS) program.
A big step up from the College's 2012 Silver Rating, the 2015 Gold Rating reflects Babson's progress in implementing its sustainability commitments. STARS measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.
It's hard to miss the new recycling and compost stations in the Reynolds Campus Center. Offering a place to compost on campus, these stations are a visible sign of Babson's increasing leadership in campus sustainability. Behind the scenes, Babson's effort to reduce energy use has been ongoing with the installation of solar panels on the new residence hall and energy-efficient lighting across campus. Sustainability leadership is springing up from Babson's innovative faculty as well - this year supporting the third class of students who graduated with an environmental sustainability concentration.
"We are very proud to have achieved a STARS Gold Rating for our sustainability accomplishments. The STARS Gold Rating recognizes our substantial progress in all areas of campus sustainability," said Mary Rose, Babson College's Vice President for Campus and Community Affairs.
Babson's formal commitment to sustainability started with signing the American College and University President's Climate Commitment in 2008, which set Babson on a path to climate neutrality by 2050. Since then, Babson has continually worked to reduce its emissions and to increase social, environmental, and economic responsibility and sustainability in its curriculum.
