LOS ANGELES, April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AXS TV is live broadcasting Indiana University's famed LITTLE 500, the largest collegiate bike race in the United States, for the twelfth consecutive year. The exclusive coverage of this unique sporting event takes place over two days live from Bloomington, Ind. on Friday, April 25 at 4pE/1pP for the women's race and Saturday, April 26 at 2pE/11aP for the men's.
AXS TV's LITTLE 500 broadcast covers all the sights and sounds of this exciting race with a 10-camera setup capturing five hours of action over two days. The AXS TV on-air broadcast team brings a mix of world-class commentary and first-hand LITTLE 500 experience with sports commentator Rich Cellini calling the play-by-play; LITTLE 500 veterans Jason Sonneborn and Hans Arnesen providing real time analysis; and former LITTLE 500 race director, participant, and championship coach Pam Loebig reporting from the field.
Continuing its storied tradition, the 63rd Annual LITTLE 500 consists of up to 33 teams of four, racing relay-style on single-speed, coaster brake racing bicycles on a quarter-mile cinder track for 200 laps in the men's race and 100 laps in the women's. Race participants range from amateur race teams to student groups such as fraternities and sororities. Since its inception in 1951, the student-organized event has raised over $1 million in scholarships for Indiana University students working through college.
"As an Indiana University alum, I have an immense appreciation for the LITTLE 500's significance to the community and the talented athletes who participate in this unique and challenging race," said Mark Cuban, founder of AXS TV. "I am proud to continue our broadcast coverage and bring this special event to a national audience."
"Through AXS TV's broadcast, we aim to capture the essence of this one-of-a-kind sporting event," said AXS TV Vice President and Executive Producer of Event Programming and Production Darrell Ewalt. "Our coverage will highlight the historic meaning behind the LITTLE 500 by not only broadcasting the race, but also using our experienced crew to feature the very passionate students who make it happen."
