Axion's Ed Buiel to Present Paper on Advanced Batteries in Micro-Hybrid Vehicles
Istanbul Conference September 21 - 24
NEW CASTLE, Pa., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Axion Power International Inc (OTC Bulletin Board: AXPW), the developer of advanced PbC® batteries, announced today that Vice President and Chief Technical Officer Edward R. Buiel, Ph.D. will present a paper titled "Dynamic Charge Acceptance of Lead-Acid Batteries in Micro Hybrids" on Sept. 23 at the 12th annual European Lead Battery Conference in Istanbul. The presentation is part of the Hybrid and Electric Vehicles session of the conference chaired by representatives from the BMW Group of Germany and Dallas-based RSR Technologies.
Dr. Buiel's jointly prepared presentation with the BMW Group will cover the burgeoning micro-hybrid vehicle (often called idle start-stop or ISS) production industry, which is expected to dominate both the hybrid vehicle and the conventional vehicle markets by 2015. Dr. Buiel will discuss how Axion's PbC batteries may possess the best solution to address requirements for ISS vehicles due to the battery's high charge acceptance, longer cycle life, ability to charge rapidly, lighter weight and other differentiating attributes.
The conference is hosted by The International Lead Association (www.ila-lead.org) and will be held at the Grand Cevahir Hotel and Convention Center, Istanbul, Turkey.
The ILA is a focused and dynamic organization dedicated to serving lead producers and other companies that have a direct interest in lead and its use. The ILA's roots stem from the Lead Development Association, which was founded in 1946 primarily to support market development. Today their role is much broader and is very much focused on all aspects of the industry's safe production, use and recycling of lead.
The European Lead Battery Conference has established a reputation as a premier forum for the discussion and exchange of technical information within the lead-acid battery industry. 12ELBC will present an ideal opportunity for those in industry, academia and research to come together to gain an increased insight into the new and evolving developments, which are providing the basis for the increasing commercial success of the industry as it seeks to play its part in confronting today's global challenges.
About Axion Power International Inc
Axion has developed and patented a next generation energy storage device that won the prestigious Frost & Sullivan Technology Award for North America in the field of lead-acid batteries. According to Frost & Sullivan, Axion's new PbC® batteries have "the potential to revitalize the lead-acid battery industry by breathing new life into an established technology that is not well suited to the requirements of important new applications like hybrid electric vehicles and renewable power."
Axion Power International Inc is the industry leader in the field of lead-acid-carbon energy storage technologies. Axion believes the PbC battery is the only class of advanced battery that can be assembled on existing lead-acid battery production lines throughout the world without significant changes to production equipment and fabrication processes. It also believes it will be able to manufacture carbon electrode assemblies in volume at low cost using standard automated production methods that are commonly used in other industries. If and when its electrode manufacturing methods are fully developed, Axion believes it will be able to sell carbon electrode assemblies as virtual plug-and-play replacements for lead-based negative electrodes used by all other lead-acid battery manufacturers. Axion's future goal, after filling their plant's lead-carbon battery production capacity, is to become the leading supplier of carbon electrode assemblies for the global lead-acid battery industry.
