Axeda Achieves Distinguished ISO 27001:2005 Certification
Company's ISO validation supports customer compliance requirements and simplifies cloud-based M2M deployments
FOXBORO, Mass., May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Axeda Corporation today announced that it has earned the prestigious ISO 27001:2005 certification for its information security management systems (ISMS) that support the company's machine-to-machine (M2M) hosting solution. Axeda is the leading cloud-based service and software for managing connected products and delivering M2M applications. ISO/IEC 27001:2005 is an internationally recognized information security management system standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
The ISO standard includes a clearly-defined set of requirements for establishing, operating, and maintaining an ISMS and prescribes a risk-based approach around the controls necessary to protect an organization's information assets.
Axeda's certification covers the maintenance and delivery of its on-demand services, including storage transport of the data associated with the service in its headquarters and data centers in Boston, MA, and Frankfurt Germany. It also covers the systems, networks, facilities, and people that support Axeda's on-demand service process.
"Our customers have their connected products deployed in highly secure environments such as hospitals, financial institutions, and government agencies," said Scott Burnett, Axeda's EVP of Engineering and Operations. "Our organization is constantly focused on how to improve security, performance and availability of our on-demand service. Attaining ISO certification is a significant milestone and validation of our efforts."
The ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification is valid for three years, with surveillance audits performed every year by UL DQS, a global registrar. To be certified to the standard, companies must implement an information security management system to identify, manage, and reduce the range of threats to which information is regularly subjected.
"Although all M2M deployments require some form of security to protect enterprise information, certain verticals by nature require more scrupulous security," said Gene Signorini, senior vice president, Yankee Group. "We do recommend that all M2M ecosystem players embrace common security standards, such as ISO 27001, in order to increase the end-user's comfort level with the technology and ultimately make deployments easier."
