MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Axcient, the leading cloud Recovery-as-a-Service solution for data and applications, is dramatically speeding up data transfer to the Axcient cloud with the introduction of its new WAN-optimized Cloud-sync protocol. The new proprietary software developed by Axcient boosts data transfer from the local Axcient appliance to the cloud by intelligently tracking unique block-level changes across all protected devices in an organization in real-time, and only sending the changed blocks to the cloud. It also optimizes transfer over the WAN by reducing network chatter and overhead by more than 90 percent. The result is an up to 60x improvement in data transfer.

"Our unique approach to syncing data in the cloud is dramatically faster than previous technology. Processes that typically took hours can now be done in seconds or minutes and consume far less bandwidth, while providing companies the ability to access or failover to the most current data and systems," said Todd Scallan, Axcient's vice president of Products. "The improved performance also enables Axcient to handle much larger data sets and to service larger enterprises, which will benefit from the speed, simplicity and minimal bandwidth consumption when managing their massive data sets."
While other vendors require companies to purchase separate hardware and software for WAN optimization and data replication, Axcient has taken a different approach and developed this technology in the software layer. As a result, it is now a part of their core cloud-based data protection offering, which results in lower total cost of ownership and simplified management from a single cloud interface.
When the new Cloud-sync protocol is combined with Axcient's recently announced next-generation architecture, speed performance improvements can be as great as 100x. Customers with large data sets have been the most significantly affected, reducing off-site transfer windows from hours to minutes. The gain in speed also impacts the ability for customers to virtualize their IT environment in the cloud, which now can happen 50 percent faster, allowing companies to quickly spin up their servers and meet their recovery time objectives.
For managed service providers (MSPs) and resellers selling and managing the Axcient solution, the speed boost is a game-changer.
"Since the implementation of Axcient's WAN-Optimized Cloud-sync protocol, we have seen our offsite data transfer time decrease by 80 percent," said Bill Heinrich, network services engineer at Workplace IT Management, a managed service provider based in Sioux Falls, S.D. "We can now offer even our smallest customers enterprise speed and performance at SMB price-points."
The new functionality is part of Axcient's next-generation platform, and will be provided to customers at no additional cost. All customers will be upgraded to the new Cloud-sync protocol and begin experiencing faster, more efficient data transfers by mid-October.
