AW&ST Names AirAsia Winner in the July 2nd Top-Performing Airlines Report
NEW YORK, July 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- AirAsia is the overall winner in Aviation Week's Top-Performing Airlines report, the leading annual rankings and competitive analysis for the global airline industry. The current issue marks the relaunch of Aviation Week's flagship brand, intensifying the focus on technology, business and operations that has long been the brand's hallmark and cementing the company's position as the largest multimedia information and services provider for the fast-evolving global aviation, aerospace and defense industries.
In this July 2 issue, Aviation Week ranks AirAsia first overall in the Top-Performing Airlines report. AirAsia was also ranked highest in the $250 million-$2 billion annual revenue category. Additional winners include:
- Singapore Airlines: $6 billion+ revenue category
- Ryanair: $2 billion-$6 billion revenue category
- Top carriers by region include:
- Allegiant in North America
- Ryanair in Europe
- AirAsia in Asia-Pacific
- Copa Airlines in Latin America
- Garuda Indonesia is most improved
- Air Arabia has the best five-year average
Most scores in this year's Top-Performing Airlines report declined compared to the previous year, particularly in the large airline category, where only one, All Nippon Airways, saw its score increase. Scoring was based predominantly on full-year 2011 data. The report also shows the comparative strength of the smaller carriers compared to the majors, with small and mid-sized airlines claiming nine of the top 10 spots in the overall rankings.
