Awareness Technologies Issues WebWatcher Parent Advisory for FormSpring.me
Alerts Parents to Anonymous Cyberbullying on Emerging Web Site
Donates Upgrade to Longtime Client Holcomb (Kansas) High School To Further Protect Students
LOS ANGELES, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Awareness Technologies, Inc. (ATI) today issued a WebWatcher Parent Advisory warning of increasing instances of anonymous Cyberbullying on social networking site FormSpring.me. Because it enables anonymous posts, the site hosts derogatory, threatening and profane language. The WebWatcher Parent Advisory series alerts parents to Internet sites and activity that are potentially harmful to children.
Also today, Awareness Technologies said it has donated enough copies of the corporate version of WebWatcher online monitoring software (InterGuard) to track and protect all of the school's computer systems, including the laptops used by each student. Accepting the donation on behalf of Holcomb (Kansas) High School is District Technology Coordinator Randy Ackerman, whose innovative 1:1 Laptop Program puts laptops in the hands of each student during the school year.
"Randy Ackerman has had one of the most aggressive student technology programs in the country, and we've been a longtime partner in securing and protecting the school's students," said Brad Miller, CEO of Awareness Technologies. "Our software creates a protective barrier around students' digital lives by blocking all inappropriate content in all electronic forms including email, IM, websites, etc."
"Technology is crucial to equipping our students to increase their readiness for a career, so it's been a major component of our curriculum," said Ackerman. "But we have a responsibility as educators to ensure that technology is being used responsibly and doesn't introduce additional risk to our kids."
The Holcomb High laptops already include software from Awareness Technologies that gives educators the choice of blocking or monitoring inappropriate sites and electronic communications. The donated software extends the protection provided to the students by allowing the school to proactively prevent Cyberbullying by intercepting offensive remarks before they are posted on the web. By tracking web site activity, social networking, email and chats and proactively blocking and reporting on offensive remarks, WebWatcher (InterGuard) provides the tools and proof administrators need to crack down on Cyberbullying.
Holcomb High students consistently score above average on state and national tests.
