Aware Software Powers Biometrics-Enabled Visa Applicant Screening System

BEDFORD, Mass., Oct. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE), a leading global provider of biometrics software and services, today announced that several Government of Canada departments and agencies have deployed Aware software as part of a new biometrics-enabled visa applicant screening tool. The tool uses biometrics to help screen applicants from certain countries who apply for a visitor visa, study permit or work permit. It helps to cross-reference the applicant's identity against existing criminal and immigration records. The tool utilizes Aware's Biometric Services Platform (BioSP™), as well as Universal Registration Client (URC) and related COTS APIs.  BioSP is a modular, centralized, service-oriented application that is used to implement workflows and manage data exchange between the various government departments. URC is a biometric enrollment application that operates on hundreds of workstations at border checkpoints, consulates, and visa service centers globally to collect biometrics from potential visitors.  Aware served as the principal subcontractor to Fujitsu Consulting (Canada) Inc. on the project.
