Award-Winning Thermal Angel Selected as Winner for 'Outstanding Military Product of the Year'
DALLAS, June 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Thermal Angel Blood and IV Fluid Infusion Warmer, a patented medical device being utilized by U.S. hospitals, military and emergency responders around the globe to lessen the effects of fluid-induced hypothermia, was named the winner for "Outstanding Military Product of the Year" by the Institute for Defense and Government Advancement (IDGA), it was announced today.
Company President Jay Lopez, along with his brother, Brandon, who serves as vice president of operations and business development, and their father, Leonard, the company chairman, runs Estill Medical Technologies, Inc. – maker of the Thermal Angel.
"We are deeply honored that the Thermal Angel technology is being recognized by the IDGA for its positive, life-saving impact on U.S. military personnel, particularly on the battlefield," said Jay Lopez.
The IDGA is a non-partisan information-based organization dedicated to the promotion of innovative ideas in public service and defense through live conferences and events.
Brandon Lopez said: "My father, brother and I have a deep respect for our military men and women and their families. We're proud and grateful that our product – the Thermal Angel – plays a significant role in alleviating and preventing deadly complications resulting from far-forward battlefield injuries suffered by military patients."
Last week, IDGA held the MHCC (Military Healthcare Convention & Conference) and Awards presentation where the winner was announced.
According to the IDGA, the recipient of the award must be a product that has "a significant positive impact in the care of the U.S. military personnel or their families."
Over the last several years, the battery-powered Thermal Angel has been extensively used as the portable blood and IV fluid warmer within the Department of Defense (DOD) and is specified as a standard of care in the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) guidelines and will continue to serve troops as the U.S. Armed Forces augments its presence in Afghanistan, Jay Lopez said.
The Thermal Angel utilizes advanced technology, which regulates the temperature of blood or IV fluid almost 5,000 times per second. It also requires only 30 seconds to set up and start delivering warm fluid in any health care setting.
The Thermal Angel has itself been praised for its lifesaving efforts both in emergency response in domestic crises as well as on the battlefield. "The Thermal Angel is an extraordinary weapon in the arsenal of emergency responders, military service men and women and others who are on the front lines of dealing with shock and trauma victims, both in the U.S. and overseas," said Brandon Lopez.
Disposable and lightweight (only 9 oz.), the Thermal Angel continues to be a proven medical technology for the U.S. military community. It can also serve emergency responders, paramedics, pre-hospital practitioners and disaster preparedness teams to reach their readiness goals by helping them serve vulnerable patient populations.
"We're deeply appreciative of this opportunity to serve our country in this capacity, and for our product, the Thermal Angel, to be recognized for its contributions to the continuum of care for our military personnel. We look forward to continued opportunities to be of service through the production and distribution of our life-saving technology," said Jay and Brandon Lopez.
