Award-Winning Short Film Series, A Skier's Journey, Releases Final Episode Today
After Four Seasons and Twelve Episodes Filmed Across the Globe, A Skier's Journey Comes Home to British Columbia in its Final Episode
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Nov. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, A Skier's Journey, the globally-acclaimed short film series, releases its final episode titled Coming Home, on www.askiersjourney.com. Launched in 2010 and directed by the celebrated Canadian filmmaker and photographer Jordan Manley, A Skier's Journey has spent four separate years following professional skiers Chad Sayers and Forrest Coots across the planet from Kashmir, to Dubai, to Argentina and Iceland – focusing not on glorifying big-mountain skiing, but on the human experience and culture of each special location. 2016 represents the final year of A Skier's Journey, with three concluding episodes representing Jordan's artistic effort to accompany Chad and Forrest to the atypical ski landscapes of Iran and China, with a significant return home to British Columbia.
"The goal with the final film Crossing Home is, of course, to wrap up the series. As a team we felt the best way to do this was to come back to British Columbia - the place we call home, and the launch pad for all our previous travels. Each of us will miss not working on ASJ any longer together after twelve different films and locations around the world, but I think crossing over our home mountain range (the Coast Mountains) was the most heartfelt way to finish."
Currently showing in film festivals worldwide, A Skier's Journey: China, was recently awarded the prestigious Best in Snowsport award at the Banff International Film Festival, outshining films from Red Bull Media House and The North Face. A Skier's Journey: China was also awarded Best Cinamatography at the Adventure Film Festival in 2016.
The final season of A Skier's Journey is especially significant for director Jordan Manley, who suffered a life-threatening brain injury in 2014, leaving his career and A Skier's Journey in limbo. After a multi-year recovery, Jordan, Chad and Forrest decided to reconvene for a significant final season. The line-up, available now for viewing in full, includes Iran, China and Crossing Home, BC. The season is a study in contrasts, probing the margins of skiing, which is what A Skier's Journey has always embodied. The series continues to portray skiing as the pursuit of a sensation, which includes a community of like-minded individuals and explorations of landscape. The characters are not defined as athletes, they are humans on a quest, curious about the world and seeking the simplicity of being borne by snow.
This homegrown project, small in undertaking, ambitious in its desire to find meaning, reveals what we can learn from taking a step back and trying on a new perspective. Discovering what unites us, without words, without rhetoric. After circling the globe, directed by longing, chance encounters and unpredictable sequences of events, Jordan, Chad and Forrest have come full circle.
