Award-Winning Renewable Energy Consultancy Dulas to Offer Triton Sonic Wind Profiler Systems for Rental in the UK
SOMERVILLE, Mass. and MACHYNLLETH, Wales, Feb. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A world renowned renewable energy service provider today announced a rental program to provide its clients with leading-edge remote sensing technology for wind measurement. Industry veteran Dulas will partner with Second Wind to offer Triton Sonic Wind Profiler systems for rental in the UK. This system complements the trusted Dulas wind development services already being utilized by UK wind developers.
Dulas is working closely with Second Wind as an approved Triton service provider. UK Triton rentals will be provided by Dulas, which carries a stock of units to cater to the growing interest in sound detection and ranging (sodar) systems. Triton is a cost effective solution for greenfield prospecting, noise analysis, wind resource assessments and turbine siting, and can be deployed immediately, with minimal permitting requirements.
The Triton adds further value to Dulas' robust met mast solution by gathering data up to 200m to provide a shear profile validation across the entire blade sweep of today's largest wind turbines. This additional information reduces the uncertainty that is introduced by extrapolating from a below hub-height met mast.
Jonathan Say, Head of Wind Monitoring at Dulas, says: "Our clients demand robust and reliable wind monitoring solutions that provide confidence in a site's development. The Triton Sonic Wind Profiler gathers vital data from initial prospecting and noise analysis to defining the wind characteristics through the entire turbine blade sweep for more accurate energy production forecasts. We are offering both Tritons and met masts because we find both technologies have a contribution to make in the areas of wind resource assessment and operations."
Triton is an advanced remote sensing system that uses sodar technology to measure wind at higher heights than the previous tower-based standard. By measuring wind speeds at the turbine rotor's hub height and beyond, Triton reduces uncertainty in annual energy production (AEP) forecasts. Triton's ease of deployment also streamlines the wind farm development process.
"Now, clients in the UK can access Tritons with flexible rental options," says Colin France, Second Wind's Director of European Business. "Dulas is a respected firm with decades of experience in wind and we are pleased to be partnering with them in this program."
