AVL Gains Special Recognition from Department of Energy at Workplace Charging Summit 2014

PLYMOUTH, Mich., Dec. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AVL announced today that they have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) at the first ever DOE Workplace Charging Challenge Summit. During the closing plenary of the Summit, DOE Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Reuben Sarkar provided special recognition to AVL and other select Challenge partners for demonstrating leadership in supporting the development of the national plug-in electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

"As a pioneer in helping develop alternative-energy engines for the automotive industry, this recognition is especially gratifying," said Don Manvel, AVL's North American Chairman. "We're honored to be one of fewer than 20% of all Challenge partners to receive this special recognition."

At the Summit, DOE also released its first ever Workplace Charging Challenge Progress Update (http://1.usa.gov/12uCUa5). Based on a survey of partners, the Update shows that Challenge partners are providing access to PEV charging stations for more than 600,000 employees at more than 300 worksites across the country. These stations provide 6.7 million kWh annually, saving more than 800,000 gallons of gasoline and 5.5 million pounds of GHG per year. That's the equivalent of removing nearly 1,500 average cars from U.S. roads.

Danielson, DOE Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The Challenge now has over 150 partners, a significant increase from the original 13 partners less than two years ago.
