BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Sept. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In advance of the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, Aviron Pictures has announced the acquisition of U.S. and Canadian distribution rights to Andrea Di Stefano's (Escobar: Paradise Lost) much-anticipated feature adaptation Three Seconds starring Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad, RoboCop, "The Killing"), Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Jack Reacher), Academy Award winner Common (Selma, John Wick: Chapter 2), Golden Globe winner Clive Owen (Closer, Children of Men) and Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049). Based on the best-selling Swedish novel by Anders Roslund and Börge Hellström, the action thriller was written by Matt Cook with revisions by Rowan Joffé and Alex Garland and current revisions by DiStefano. Thunder Road Pictures' (Sicario, The Town) Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee are producing alongside The Fyzz Facility's (47 Meters Down) Wayne Marc Godfrey, Robert Jones, Mark Lane and James Harris and Ollie Madden. The Fyzz Facility is also financing the film. Thunder Road's Jonathan Fuhrman and Magnolia Entertainment's Shelley Browning are Executive Producers. Acquisitions head Jason Resnick brokered the deal for Aviron Pictures. BLOOM handled international sales.
Three Seconds follows reformed criminal and former special ops soldier Pete Hoffman (Kinnaman) who, in order to free himself from jail and return to his wife (de Armas) and daughter, has been working undercover for crooked FBI handlers (Pike, Common and Owen) to infiltrate the Polish mob's drug trade in New York. In a final step towards freedom, Hoffman must return to the one place he's fought so hard to leave, Bale Hill Prison, where his mission becomes a race against time when a drug deal goes wrong and threatens to identify him as a mole. The film recently wrapped production.
"Three Seconds is a gritty, white knuckle ride that showcases the talents of some heavy-hitting actors," says Aviron Pictures' David Dinerstein. "Having just worked with Wayne and The Fyzz on the successful release of 47 Meters Down, we're grateful to have another project on which to partner with them and are looking forward to working with Basil and Thunder Road on this intense, action-packed thriller."
Aviron Pictures launched its first slate ahead of this year's Cannes Film Festival, announcing U.S. rights deals for Kidnap, a suspense-thriller currently in theaters starring Academy Award winner Halle Berry and directed by Luis Prieto, writer/director Fred Wolf's upcoming comedy Drunk Parents starring Salma Hayek and Alec Baldwin, and Strangers, a horror film inspired by 2008's The Strangers, which grossed $82M worldwide. Aviron has preemptively picked up Three Seconds in advance the Toronto International Film Festival, where it will be actively seeking to acquire new projects for distribution.
The Fyzz Facility produced and financed the biggest independent release of the year, 47 Meters Down starring Mandy Moore and directed by Johannes Roberts, for which Aviron Pictures handled domestic theatrical marketing for Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures. The Fyzz Facility's slate also includes Martin Campbell's The Foreigner starring Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan and Strangers, also directed by Roberts, which Aviron will be distributing in the U.S. and Canada and BLOOM will be selling internationally.
