AVID Seniors Rank High in College Readiness, Graduation Rates, and AP®/IB® Test-Taking Numbers
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A record 27,891 AVID seniors participated in AVID's annual data collection reporting details about their demographics and academic achievements. AVID is a non-profit, proven college readiness system that closes the achievement gap. Hispanic/Latino students led the reporting with 55 percent; 17 percent of the students were African American and 15 percent of the students were white. A total of 69 percent of the students who reported were eligible for free or reduced lunch.

Of the 2011 AVID seniors reporting their information, 98.8 percent graduated from high school with 91 percent planning to attend a postsecondary institution - 58 percent to four-year college or university and 33 percent to two-year community college institutions.
Additionally, 72 percent of the seniors reported taking at least one college preparation course, like AP® or IB®, with 60 percent taking the corresponding exam. 2011 AVID seniors also reported completing four-year college entrance requirements at a rate more than two times their peers.
