AVIATION WEEK and Farnborough International Present Curtis Sword Award to Air Marshal T.M. 'Timo' Anderson
FARNBOROUGH, England, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- AVIATION WEEK and Farnborough International have presented the 2010 John Curtis Sword Award to Air Marshal T.M. "Timo" Anderson, first Director General of the independent U.K. Military Aviation Authority and Regulator of Military Air Safety, at the Farnborough International Airshow last night. Air Marshal Anderson was recognized for his exceptional service and contributions to the Royal Air Force (RAF) and Anglo/U.S. relations. The Curtis Sword is presented biennially to the person or persons who best demonstrate transatlantic leadership and cooperation.
"Air Marshal Anderson's dedication to safe, effective testing and evaluation of air systems, as well as his sound advice for U.K. air operations and support are truly exemplary," said AVIATION WEEK President Tom Henricks. "AVIATION WEEK is proud to present him with the Curtis Sword Award, as he continues to provide direction for regulating and ensuring air safety, thus continuing his legacy of strong leadership, spirit and vision."
In August 2005, Air Marshal Anderson assumed concurrent appointments as Commandant of the RAF Air Warfare Center, director of the U.K.'s Defence Electronic Warfare Centre, and assistant chief of staff for intelligence at HQ RAF Strike Command. Air Marshal Anderson is currently responsible for the U.K.'s operation and technical air safety, independent air accident investigations, and convening authority for service inquiries into air accidents. He is also president of the RAF Rugby Union, president of the Northern Ireland Wing of the Air Training Corps, and president of the No. 14 Squadron Association.
The award is named for John Curtis, former U.K. Marketing Director of Aviation Week & Space Technology. AVIATION WEEK established the award to remember Curtis' spirit and vision.
