AVG Technologies Appoints John Giamatteo Chief Operating Officer
Highly Experienced Technology Industry Veteran to Join Leading Provider of Internet and Mobile Security
AMSTERDAM, Nov. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AVG Technologies (AVG), a leading provider of Internet and mobile security, today announced the appointment of John J. Giamatteo as Chief Operating Officer, reporting directly to JR Smith, Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Mr. Giamatteo will oversee the company's global organization and operations, as AVG continues to expand its security footprint across markets and to additional technology platforms.

Mr. Giamatteo is a global technology veteran, bringing over 23 years of strong financial, operational and strategic leadership experience in public companies and in running multi-billion dollar businesses. Mr. Giamatteo was most recently Chief Operating Officer of Solera Holdings Inc. Prior to Solera, from June 2005 - April 2010, Mr. Giamatteo held a variety of senior management positions at RealNetworks Inc., a digital entertainment services company that invented the streaming media category and continues creating innovative applications and services for digital media, including serving as Chief Operating Officer there. From January 1988 - June 2005, Mr. Giamatteo was at Nortel Networks Ltd. in a variety of management positions, culminating with his appointment in January 2003 as President/CEO of Nortel's Asia-Pacific Region, where he was responsible for full P&L management of Nortel's business in Asia Pacific ($2B) across all functions. Mr. Giamatteo holds a B.S. in Accounting and an M.B.A. from St. John's University.
