Autumn at the Arboretum Fall Festival Features "The Adventures in Neverland" as Theme
DALLAS, Aug. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of pumpkins, gourds and squashes are sprouting in the Texas Panhandle this summer, soon making their way to Dallas for Autumn at the Arboretum, a national fall festival presented by Rogers-O'Brien Construction. Named "One of The World's 15 Most Breathtaking Gardens" by Architectural Digest, the Dallas Arboretum's festival highlights "The Adventures in Neverland," featuring scenes from the beloved book, September 22 to November 21.
For the 13th year, Autumn at the Arboretum, known as one of the "Best Fall Festivals" by Country Living, includes the nationally-acclaimed Pumpkin Village featuring pumpkin houses and creative displays incorporating more than 90,000 pumpkins, gourds and squashes along with hay bales and cornstalks.
At the Pumpkin Village, guests journey through Neverland starting in London at the house of the Darlings where Wendy and her brothers are dreaming of pirates and fairies. Other major stops include the Lost Boys hideout where Peter, Wendy and the Lost Boys talk about never growing up. A pirate ship sails the seas of gourds and pumpkins in Pecan Grove where Captain Hook keeps his eye to the sky as he hunts for Peter. Tick-Tock, the Crocodile, waits patiently among the pumpkins for another opportunity to attack. A visit to Neverland would not be complete without a stop by Tinker Bell's home.
"Our horticulture team is creating a creative Pumpkin Village exhibition and displays throughout the garden where more than 250,000 people will experience during Autumn at the Arboretum," said Dave Forehand, Dallas Arboretum's vice president of gardens.
Many activities take place during the festival including children's activities, historic DeGolyer House tours, Harvest Tea, beer and craft food tastings, gourd demonstrations, live music and book signings. At A Tasteful Place, a garden dedicated to healthful growing, harvesting and preparing healthy food, there are cooking, gardening and floral demonstrations, cooking classes, harvesting times and daily tastings.
During the opening of the festival, the eight-acre scientific Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden celebrates its fifth anniversary with activities. That day also features a Hispanic Heritage Celebration with a first-ever Quinceañera fashion show.
