Automakers Demonstrate Reductions in Greenhouse Gas Emissions in EPA's Performance Report

WASHINGTON, April 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Statement by John Bozzella, Global Automakers President and CEO:

Our members' efforts to reduce their environmental footprint each year by advancing fuel efficiency, reducing greenhouse gases (GHG), and accelerating the introduction of advanced fuel technologies is working. The Environmental Protection Agency's performance report for the first year of GHG standards showed that our industry lowered tailpipe GHG emissions in model year 2012 six percent relative to 2011. These incremental improvements are the first steps in a 14 year program. We are making progress.

Our members are committed to a single, harmonized national program that reduces motor vehicle GHG emissions and increases fuel economy from 2012 through MY2025. The program allows manufacturers to have the flexibility to meet the standards through any technology. As a result, consumers today have a variety of powertrain options. Complementing the significant improvements to the existing gasoline fleet, there are more than 50 models of hybrid cars available today.
