TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Oct. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Auto Data Direct, Inc. (ADD) today announced it has reduced its pricing for vehicle title check reports obtained from the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) through its TitleCheck.us website to help protect consumers from purchasing vehicles that may have been damaged during Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
"It's always a good idea for consumers to check a vehicle's title history before making a purchase, but the potential of buying a seriously damaged car is greater than ever in the wake of this historic storm," said Jim Taylor, president of ADD. "These back to back storms in the U.S. significantly increase the risk that a consumer will potentially purchase a flood-damaged vehicle. We have reduced our pricing by half in order to encourage consumers to take this easy step to protect themselves."
ADD is reducing its $4.95 report fee to $2.50 for reports purchased on its TitleCheck.us website. "Following Hurricane Katrina, thousands of damaged vehicles were transported out of Louisiana, refurbished and sold to unsuspecting buyers all over the country," said Taylor. "Vehicles damaged by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma can end up in any state so it's very important that consumers be vigilant in checking the history of a used car no matter where it's purchased."
TitleCheck.us reports contain information from NMVTIS, a federal database operated by the U.S. Department of Justice containing automobile information from states, insurance companies, and the salvage industry. ADD is an official NMVTIS provider and TitleCheck.us reports include information from the vehicle's current title, including its brand history, title history, and any reported odometer readings.
Emphasizing the importance of this valuable consumer protection tool, the Department of Justice (DOJ) released its own advisory encouraging car buyers to check a vehicle's history before making that purchase. The full DOJ press release can be found at https://www.vehiclehistory.gov/pdfs/NMVTIS-press-release_FINAL_9-14-17.pdf. It is currently estimated that due to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, as many as 1 million flood-damaged automobiles could potentially be passed on to unsuspecting buyers in the coming weeks and months.
ADD's TitleCheck.us report will also tell consumers if a vehicle has been reported as 'salvage' or a total loss by an insurance company or a self-insuring organization, and lists reports from salvage businesses who may have handled the vehicle. Additional basic information such as model, color, year, etc., helps consumers ensure the vehicle they are looking at matches the one listed in the federal database.
To obtain a NMVTIS vehicle title check report from ADD, simply visit www.titlecheck.us and enter the vehicle's identification number (VIN) in the search box on their home page. Enter the promo code HARVEY2017 or IRMA2017 during the purchase process to receive discounted pricing. For questions, or to talk to a customer service representative, call ADD at 1-866-923-3123.
