Autism Alliance of Michigan receives $50,000 grant from Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan to help continue mission

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Autism Alliance of Michigan recently received a grant in the amount of $50,000 from Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan. The grant is to support the development of the Michigan Family Autism Navigator, a pilot program to help families of young children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

According to Dr. Colleen Allen, President & CEO of Autism Alliance of Michigan, "This funding from Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan will significantly impact the ability of families living with autism to access critical services and supports at a very young age range. Given the complicated maze of options across service delivery systems, families are frequently confused by what is available, where to go, and even knowing the questions to ask along the way, especially those from low income regions of our state."

Autism Alliance of Michigan was established in 2009. Its mission is to lead collaborative efforts across the state that will improve quality of life for individuals with autism through education, comprehensive services, community inclusion efforts, and coordinated advocacy.

In 2012, AAoM led a successful campaign for autism insurance reform in Michigan, providing a vital benefit for families. This early effort defined its role as a key autism organization in the state.
