Author Reveals Why Some Seniors Decline Prematurely
ESCONDIDO, Calif., July 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- According to anti-aging expert Barbara Morris, author of five self-help books and her latest, The New Put Old on Hold, there is a sure-fire way to avoid premature mental and physical decline. In her latest book she claims, "The problem and solution are right under our noses but we don't see it or want to admit the problem is really the problem."
She says the first step in recognizing the problem, and fixing it, is awareness of misconceptions we have about old age, and we need to throw them into the trash. "Old people can live more vibrantly and youthfully if horse and buggy ideas and stereotypes about how things are supposed to be when we are 'old' are recognized and rejected."
Morris identifies what she believes is the major "culprit" responsible for premature decline: the traditional senior mindset and lifestyle that developed along with the creation of Social Security in the 1930s. "Over time it has become a well-defined, leisure-oriented mindset and lifestyle that if personally adopted, will absolutely result in premature decline. Business interests have played a huge role in promotion of the mindset and lifestyle. For example, creation of "seniors-only" communities that segregate seniors from the real world. "You can't live in a cocoon where everyone looks, thinks and acts alike and not experience decline."
The author urges pre-retirees to reject the "old ways" of thinking about aging and instead, think outside of the "old age box," have a plan to live independently and productively on your own terms, and not accept outdated cultural norms that dictate how seniors should live.
Morris "tells it how it is" in The New Put Old on Hold and in her monthly newsletter, "The Put Old on Hold Journal." Subscriptions are free.
