Author Neil McCormick Hosts Free Screening of Film 'Killing Bono'
On eve of U2's Pittsburgh Heinz Field concert
MIDLAND, Pa., June 27, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --A special free advance screening of the film 'Killing Bono' is planned in this western Pennsylvania town's performing arts center on July 25, the evening before the rock band U2's tour-ending concert at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field.
'Killing Bono' author Neil McCormick will host the screening and attend a reception afterward. McCormick is this year's artist-in-residence at the Summer Writers' Conference and Workshops hosted by Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center.
The film tells the story of young Irish rocker McCormick and his brother Ivan as they try to become rock stars but can only look on as school chums form U2 and become the biggest band in the world.
McCormick's appearance in Midland corresponds to him being this year's artist-in-residence at Lincoln Park's Summer Writer's Conference. He will stay in town the day after the film screening to attend U2's tour-ending Heinz Field concert.
Tickets will be available beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29. Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. July 25 screening are free if obtained in person at the Lincoln Park box office in Midland; a $1 per ticket handling charge applies if purchased by phone or online. A limit of four tickets per order will be enforced.
The U2 fan club @U2 will host a post-film reception at Lincoln Park with food, beverages and the opportunity to meet McCormick. Tickets to the reception are $10 and may be purchased through the box office.
Not due for release in U.S. theaters until this fall, the film is rated R; no one under 17 will be admitted without a parent or adult guardian.
The film is a rock-and-roll comedy based on McCormick's 2003 memoir. 'Killing Bono' tells the story of young Irish rocker McCormick and his brother Ivan as they attempt to become rock stars but can only look on as their school friends form U2 and become the biggest band in the world.
Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian in 'The Chronicles of Narnia') stars as Neil McCormick, Robert Sheehan ('Misfits,' 'Cherrybomb') play Ivan McCormick, and Martin McCann ('Closing the Ring', HBO's 'The Pacific') is Bono. Actors include the final film performance of the late Pete Postlethwaite, an Academy Award-nominated actor for 'In the Name of the Father.'
'Killing Bono' was directed by Nick Hamm from a screenplay by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais ('The Commitments').
