Austin Recovery Announces Multi-Day Intensive Family Program to Kick-Off this Fall
The Healing Begins For More Than Just Clients
AUSTIN, Texas, June 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Austin Recovery, the largest and most affordable drug and alcohol treatment center in Texas, announced today that it plans to pilot its first intensive Family Experience this fall. Geared to family members of clients seeking recovery from alcohol and drug dependence, this multi-day family program aims to address the informational needs of the family members, while helping them heal from the affects the addiction has had on their lives. As each family member or loved one is impacted differently, the program will be individualized to best address the attendees' individual issues.
Set to take place at Austin Recovery's 44-acre Hicks Family Ranch in Buda, Texas, the program will include lectures, small and large group sessions, addiction and recovery education, experiential exercises, as well as therapy sessions with their loved one.
While this program will be the first comprehensive program for Austin Recovery families, it will expand upon the agency's long history of emphasis on family. The program will supplement Austin Recovery's family resource catalog, which currently includes the monthly Gateway to Recovery workshop series, individual and multi-family group therapy sessions, and weekly family education. Emphasis on family healing is also apparent with Austin Recovery's Family House program, which allows mothers to bring two children under the age of six with them into residential treatment.
"This Family Experience is fulfilling a previously unmet need for families of Austin Recovery clients," said Jonathan Ross, Austin Recovery CEO. "As addiction affects the whole family, we are now able to provide full-service treatment by addressing their needs as well." Ross continued, "By working with them in an intensive setting, we can provide them with a new understanding of addiction and the impact it has on their lives."
The workshop is being planned and facilitated by David Miller, LCSW and psychotherapist. "When families can finally talk about how addiction has affected them, they can become free of their shame, guilt, fear, and hurt. This presents them with a new perspective, and their healing process can begin," said Miller. "Their lives have been unconsciously affected by the behaviors of their addicted loved ones. By taking care of 'self' they become the best aid in the recovery of both their loved one and themselves."
The pilot Family Experience will take place in fall 2011, with an ongoing schedule to follow. Registration information will become available in the summer.
