Aurora University Professor Mary K. Tarling Receives 2011 Illinois CPA Society Outstanding Educator Award

CHICAGO, June 16, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Illinois CPA Society recently honored Mary K. Tarling, CPA, MBA, with their 2011 Outstanding Educator Award. The award recognizes Illinois educators at a community college, college, or university who excel in their leadership and teaching, and who have made continuous and outstanding contributions to accounting education in the state.

Tarling currently acts as Interim Chair of the Accounting and Finance programs and Assistant Professor, as well as the Director of the Servant Leadership University at Aurora University. She strives to improve each student from the beginning of their relationship and views them as her "academic clients." Tarling sees it as her responsibility to meet their needs both in and out of the classroom regarding education, support and guidance. As the faculty adviser of the Student Accounting Society since the group's inception in 2005, Tarling works to expose students to a variety of professional directions by inviting guest speakers and acting as a mentor based on her own professional background.  Tarling designed a mock interview event to allow students the chance to develop their "soft skills" in a casual setting which has resulted in multiple actual interviews and placements.

Those who nominated Tarling speak to her constant availability and support, with her end goal being her students' success. Tarling's availability to her students 24/7 allows her to assist them when they most need the help.

A resident of Naperville, Illinois, Tarling received a BS in Accounting from Northern Illinois University and an MBA with a concentration in Financial Management from Benedictine University. In addition to teaching, Tarling is also the CFO of ServiceMaster Company in Chicago.
