AUL Renews Call for Congressional Investigation Into Planned Parenthood Finances and Taxpayer Abortion Funding
"The weight of the evidence against Planned Parenthood demands a thorough response," said AUL's Dr. Charmaine Yoest.
WASHINGTON, July 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Americans United for Life today renewed the call for a Congressional investigation and released an analysis and point-by-point rebuttal of Planned Parenthood's "Fact-Check" of AUL's recent report. Dr. Charmaine Yoest, President and CEO of AUL, noted that Planned Parenthood's response failed to address the most serious of the report's claims including Planned Parenthood's misuse of government funding and its failure to comply with state laws.
The unaddressed allegations include:
- a pattern of Medicaid fraud among affiliates;
- misuse of federal funds to subsidize their abortion business;
- and deliberate defiance of laws designed to protect minors like parental notification for abortion and mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse.
Americans United for Life Action distributed copies of AUL's report, "The Case for Investigating Planned Parenthood," on Capitol Hill last week, following the Thursday morning release. The report is the result of years of AUL legal team research poring over more than 20 years of Planned Parenthood records, law enforcement reports, and other materials. The report details evidence of systemic financial irregularities within the abortion giant – which receives more than $363 million in taxpayer funding each year.
Planned Parenthood responded with a three-page rebuttal. Click here to read AUL's analysis of those claims.
AUL President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest noted that often hearings and investigation preceded efforts to defund the recipients of taxpayer funding.
"It is time for Planned Parenthood to give an accounting for what it has done with millions in taxpayer support," she said.
A number of states have begun the process of defunding abortion providers, though the efforts in Indiana have garnered the most media attention. Those states include New Jersey, Kansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Texas and Ohio.
The report is one facet of AUL's strategic plan to end taxpayer subsidies to the abortion industry, to protect women, and to effectuate legal rights for all human beings. The AUL report documents known and alleged abuses by Planned Parenthood, and is intended to be a tool for use in investigating the nation's largest abortion provider.
The AUL report substantiates, synthesizes, and gives clear direction for the case against Planned Parenthood, which enjoys one-third of a billion in taxpayer support as a result of its intensive lobbying efforts.
