August Phone Scam Update Published by PaydayLoansOnline.net
The short term loan matching service and consumer finance site has added to its library of informative articles with a summary of phone and online scams from August 2013
DALLAS, September 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
PaydayLoansOnline.net has announced the addition of a new "Scam Update Summary" to its website. The site currently features warnings about number of phone scams, online scams and payday loan scams that target American consumers and gives details on how consumers can protect themselves and remain two steps ahead of scam artists.
The new Scam Update Summary features a few of the newest scams that have been reported by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) this summer, namely in August 2013. It is entitled "Online and Phone Scams Reported in August 2013" and it can be accessed and read by free by visiting the PaydayLoansOnline.net site.
It features a number of email hacking scams, online shopping scams and phony government office phone scams as well as tips on how consumers should protect themselves. Some highlights of the article include:
- Email hacking scams: To avoid having email compromised, change your password every month to something secure with a mixture of numbers and letters in upper and lower case. Also check your log-in history and request free log-in reports to see if there has been any unauthorized access to your accounts. It is also important to avoid using open Wifi networks or stay signed into email accounts on shared computers.
- Online shopping scams: Be aware of SSL encryption and try to use sites that feature a secure "padlock" on the bottom of the web browser screen. Consider installing a "sign in safe" widget for extra protection. Be selective when choosing new online shops to use and do a quick web search with the name of the shop plus "scam" to see if it flags any warning signs or past scams.
- Fake Government Official scams: A genuine caller from a U.S. government department will always be more than happy to provide you with written evidence or information - never feel pressured to give details over the phone if you are suspicious.
A spokesperson for PaydayLoansOnline.net commented on the article.
"We want consumers to be well-informed about online and phone scams - reading our new summary of August 2013 scams is a great way to help protect themselves."
