August 28th Is Free Kronos Gyros Day! Help Yourself To A Free Gyros & You Can Help A Hero By Giving Back To Military Families
Participating Chicagoland Restaurants Celebrate Chicagoland's Love of Gyros and Show Gratitude to Military Families through its 4th Annual Kronos Free Gyros Day
GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- American's don't always agree on how to pronounce "gee'row," "jiro" or "that Greek sandwich," but on Tuesday, August 28, Kronos will be the FREE way to say GYROS. Kronos Foods, Inc., a leading manufacturer of premium Gyros and other Mediterranean specialty food items, will give Chicagoans the chance to say it however they want and get a sandwich for free, thanks to the 4th Annual "Kronos Free Gyros Day."
The event also encourages consumers to "Help Yourself & You Can Help a Hero," by posting Fisher House™ Foundation donation boxes at more than 50 restaurants participating in Kronos Free Gyros Day.
The Fisher House Foundation (www.fisherhouse.org) is an organization enabling military family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease or injury. Chicagoland's Fisher House, located on the campus of the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Ill., will benefit from Kronos Free Gyros donations.
During the past three Free Gyros Day events, Kronos has given away nearly 100,000 free gyros to consumers, and Chicagoans have donated close to $10,000 to Fisher House Foundation. On Sept. 25th, the top four restaurants, whose customers raise the most money for the Fisher House Foundation, will give a free Kronos t-shirt to the first 100 customers who order a gyros sandwich. The top four restaurants will be announced through Facebook, Twitter and the Kronos website.
"We are so proud to be entering the fourth year of Kronos Free Gyros Day, where we can partner the popularity of gyros with the importance of giving back to the military and their families," says Howard Eirinberg, president, Kronos Foods, Inc. "When many are experiencing hard times, we're thrilled to be able to provide our loyal gyros fans with a free sandwich and we are confident they'll pay it forward and show their deep gratitude by contributing to our local Fisher House."
Whether it is lunch, dinner or a snack, Kronos gyros will be free at more than 50 participating Chicagoland area locations. Additionally, consumers can make a gyros stop along Chicago's tollways, at one of the four Kronos Gyros & Cafe restaurants located at Belvidere, Hinsdale, Lake Forest and Schiller Park (O'Hare).

Traditionally known as a Greek sandwich, a gyros is made with selected beef and lamb meat seasoned with zesty spices, thinly sliced and piled high onto a fluffy handmade flatbread pita. Gyros can be enjoyed many different ways, but is usually topped with onions and tomatoes, as well as a flavorful creamy cucumber sauce called tzatziki or gyros sauce.
