Audio-Technica Scales New Heights at CES 2015 with SonicSport® "Find Your Fit" Climbing Wall, Hi-Res Audio Headphones and More
STOW, Ohio, Jan. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- At CES 2015 Audio-Technica is introducing a host of new products including four SonicSport in-ear headphones, three Hi-Res Audio-certified headphones, new attractively priced gaming headsets and more. The new headphones are on exhibit at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth 20756, South Hall Lower Level (January 6 – 9, 2015).
"At CES 2015 we're introducing models with all-new designs and technologies that appeal to all facets of music lovers. They fit the needs of everyone from listeners with on-the-go lives to the most critical audiophiles, and we can be counted on to always deliver high-quality audio in best-of class products," said Crystal Griffith, Audio-Technica Consumer Marketing Manager. "And we've literally taken our CES exhibit to new heights this year with our SonicSport climbing wall."
The SonicSport ATH-SPORT1, ATH-SPORT1iS, ATH-SPORT2 and ATH-SPORT3 are a main focus at Audio-Technica's booth where they are showcased in a "Find Your Fit" demonstration that features a climbing wall, stationary bicycle and treadmill where attendees can see the products in use. All four headphones are designed to stay in place during active exercising and are sweatproof and washable with an IPX5-lab-certified rating. The ATH-SPORT1iS adds smartphone compatibility with a built-in microphone for answering calls and an in-line remote for controlling phone calls and music playback.
The ATH-SPORT1 and ATH-SPORT1iS (SRP: US$34.95 and US$39.95) have hinged ear hooks that pivot to provide an adjustable fit around the ears for secure, long-lasting comfort. The Audio-Technica ATH-SPORT2 (SRP: US$39.95) features ergonomically designed earpieces that mirror the hollow of the ear to provide a perfect fit and improved sound, with an angled housing that keeps the 3.9-foot cord behind the wearer's neck. The ATH-SPORT2 employs powerful 10 mm drivers and a noise-reducing cable design to deliver clear, detailed and dynamic sound. Audio-Technica's ATH-SPORT3 (SRP: US$59.95) combine superb sound and total comfort, featuring upgraded 10 mm drivers and flexible memory cables that bend to loop over the wearer's ears for a custom fit.
All SonicSport headphones come with both standard silicone eartips (XS/S/M/L) and ridged eartips (S/M/L) that allow the user to hear ambient noise like traffic or other runners for safer use outdoors. The headphones are equipped with a 3.9-foot cable and will be available in January 2015 in a variety of bold colors.
Audio-Technica's new high-fidelity series ATH-W1000Z over-ear, SonicPro® ATH-CKR10 in-ear and SonicPro ATH-MSR7 over-ear headphones (available in black ATH-MSR7BK and in gun metal ATH-MSR7GM) are the company's first models to carry the Hi-Res Audio designation. Designed to complement the finest high-resolution, better-than-CD-quality audio source material, the headphones offer a host of ultimate-performance features, including the world's first-ever Push-Pull Driver System (model ATH-CKR10) and Audio-Technica's new True Motion Drivers (model ATH-MSR7).
The ATH-W1000Z (SRP: US$699.95, available March 2015) is the latest generation of Audio-Technica's acclaimed "W" Series headphones and incorporates several refinements, including high-frequency response to 42,000 Hz, a natural teak wood housing that imparts an elegant appearance and minimizes unwanted resonance, a large-diameter 53 mm rare-earth magnet drive system and more.
The ATH-CKR10 (SRP: US$389.95, available now) incorporates Audio-Technica's proprietary Push-Pull Driver System, which utilizes two 13 mm drivers that face each other but are wired out of phase, so that harmonic distortion is reduced and response time is improved while power is doubled and output sensitivity is increased. The result is a spacious, expansive and detailed sound across a wide frequency range, suiting all styles of music.
The smartphone-compatible ATH-MSR7 (SRP: US$249.95, available March 2015) features the company's True Motion Drivers, which employ an exclusive 45 mm driver with a lightweight, highly responsive voice coil and diaphragm, along with Multi-Layer Air Damping Technology with three precisely placed air vents that control the airflow to provide greater dynamics and sonic impact. Like the ATH-CKR10, the ATH-MSR7 utilizes two acoustic resistors that provide extended bass and improved high frequencies.
At CES 2015 Audio-Technica is expanding its gaming headsets lineup with the debut of its ATH-PG1 closed-back and ATH-PDG1 open-air headphones (SRP: US$199.95 each; available January 2015). Both models offer a host of gaming-centric features including a flexible gooseneck microphone with detachable cable, smartphone cable, 5.6-foot extension cable and a lightweight comfort-fit design. The headsets' large-diameter drivers deliver an immersive sonic experience with exceptional clarity and dynamics, and a realistic soundstage that draws listeners completely into the gaming environment.
Audio-Technica brings more style and fun to vinyl listening with the CES 2015 premiere of its popular AT-LP60 Turntable System in striking blue AT-LP60BL and red AT-LP60RD finishes. Available at US$129.95 suggested retail exclusively from Amazon.com in February 2015, the AT-LP60 is a fully automatic – and fully equipped – belt-drive turntable with built-in, switchable phono preamp, enabling it to be connected directly to a computer, stereo or other audio component, even those without a dedicated turntable input.
In Brief: The Move to Hi-Res Audio
While many listeners may believe that high-resolution audio came along with the introduction of the Compact Disc in 1982, constraints on the disc's storage space always prevented CD audio (standardized at 44.1 kHz/16-bit) from fully and completely reproducing the original recorded sound. The advent and subsequent popularity of MP3s only made this problem more pronounced – the necessary compression of these files causes audio information to be lost, thus greatly reducing the audio quality. But with lossless audio file formats, faster Internet speeds, and storage space increasingly easy to come by (and in ever-smaller packages), the push is on to create audio equipment capable of capturing and reproducing true Hi-Res Audio, generally considered to be 96kHz/24-bit or better. The Hi-Res Audio logo certifies that a product meets the Hi-Res Audio standards. Per these standards, headphones must have transducer frequency performance of at least 40 kHz. As a producer of these types of audiophile headphones since 1972, Audio-Technica is well-positioned to provide audio solutions that meet the demands of Hi-Res Audio media formats, allowing for the full reproduction of their extended sonic characteristics.
