Auctions America Shines Spotlight on Television Cars and Stars at Auburn Fall Event
Rolls-Royce used in award-winning series "Boardwalk Empire" appears alongside an exciting list of celebrities at the Auburn Auction Park
AUBURN, Ind., Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A 1921 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Saloon used in the acclaimed HBO series, "Boardwalk Empire" will bring star power to the historic Auburn Auction Park next week as it crosses the block during Auctions America's annual Auburn Fall weekend, August 27-31. A Labor Day tradition spanning more than four decades, the multi-day event offers fun for the whole family, including a 1200-car auction alongside a car corral, swap meet, celebrity appearances and thrill-seeking automotive activities.
Boasting an outstanding provenance from new, the screen-worthy Rolls-Royce was originally owned by Frederick Alton Powers of Houlton, Maine, who served on the Supreme Judicial Court of the State of Maine, as well as in the House of Representatives, the Senate, and as Attorney General for two terms. In recent years, Cars for Films acquired the car and it played a starring role in the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning television series "Boardwalk Empire". In this Prohibition Era drama, the car was utilized by the main character, corrupt Atlantic City politician Enoch "Nuckey" Thompson, portrayed by Steve Buscemi.
Among other highlights set to go under the gavel next week is a complete Auburn Cord Duesenberg lineup along with a 1964 Chevrolet Impala Convertible, offered by founder of Auburn-based Rathburn Tool & Manufacturing and Vietnam veteran, Jerry Rathburn. All proceeds from the Impala's sale will benefit Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana, a nonprofit organization created to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices by flying them to Washington, DC to reflect at their memorials.
"A highlight of the famous Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival, Auburn Fall's diverse range of auction vehicles, celebrity sightings, and exhilarating activities bring collectors and their families home to the Classic Car Capital of America for the ultimate celebration of the collector car hobby," says Donnie Gould, Auctions America. "We're excited to see more and more enthusiasts make Auburn Fall their Labor Day tradition each year."
Beyond the auction excitement, the weekend will feature appearances by Frank Fritz, star of the History Channel's "American Pickers"; Courtney Hansen, star of the new automotive programming block "PowerNation" on NBCSN, CBS Sports and Spike TV; and Rick and Kelly Dale, stars of the History Channel's hit series "American Restoration". In addition, enthusiasts can enjoy ATV, dirt bike and monster truck shows, onsite helicopter rides and a visit from the 2014 Dodge Power Rallye Tour.
For those unable to be part of the fun, NBCSN will put the Labor Day tradition on a national stage, bringing four days of select Auburn Fall highlights to more than 80 million homes across the U.S.
