Auction of Virginia's Natural Bridge rescheduled for Dec. 18
ROANOKE, Va., Oct. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The auction of Natural Bridge -- the world-famous Virginia landmark originally surveyed by a young George Washington and once owned by Thomas Jefferson – has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 18. The auction had previously been set for Nov. 14.
"After reviewing the various time schedules, the pieces just weren't going to come together in time for the date we had planned. Pushing it back a few weeks will allow more time for surveying and other processes necessary to market and convey the this magnificent landmark properly," said Jim Woltz, president of Woltz & Associates, which will conduct the auction.
The auction will include the bridge itself, the 150-room hotel, Natural Bridge Caverns and approximately 1,600 acres. The company was retained by the principal owner, Angelo Puglisi, to sell the landmark, which was bought from King George by Thomas Jefferson. Many believe it was surveyed in 1750 by George Washington, and the initials "G.W." are carved on the wall of the bridge, 23 feet up.
"Everything is proceeding according to plan for the auction – just a bit more slowly than we planned. It took Mother Nature thousands of years to create this landmark, and it's worth delaying things for a month to prepare for the sale," said Woltz.
