AUA Names Inaugural H. Logan Holtgrewe Legislative Fellow
Dr. C.J. Stimson selected for prestigious new fellowship program
BALTIMORE, Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Urological Association (AUA) today announced that Dr. C.J. Stimson has been named the 2015 H. Logan Holtgrewe Legislative Fellow. Dr. Stimson is the first honoree of this new program, which is designed to prepare and educate urology residents and fellows in the legislative aspect of health policy.
As the AUA's Holtgrewe Fellow, Dr. Stimson will participate in major AUA advocacy initiatives, including the Urology Joint Advocacy Conference (JAC) and meetings of the Public Policy Council and Legislative Affairs Committee. He also will attend the Brandeis University Executive Leadership Program in Health Policy & Management and complete a four-week fellowship with a legislative office in Washington, DC.
"Dr. Stimson brings to this fellowship a keen understanding of and interest in healthcare policy issues and we are excited to have him as our first honoree," said AUA Public Policy Vice Chair Dr. Christopher Gonzalez, who chaired the committee for the award. "He is committed to being active in the healthcare policy debate and it is our hope that this fellowship will build on his already strong foundation in this area."
Dr. Stimson is in the final year of his urologic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and, in 2015 will transition to Johns Hopkins' Brady Urological Institute and become the Warburton-Jewett Fellow in Urologic Oncology. He holds Doctorate of Medicine and Juris Doctorate degrees from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelor of Science degree from The College of William and Mary.
This new fellowship program was established in recognition of Dr. H. Logan Holtgrewe, former AUA president and past chairman of the AUA's Health Policy Council. Dr. Holtgrewe held numerous other leadership positions within the urology community, including serving as president of the American Board of Urology, as chairman on the Economics of the World Health Organization's Consultations on Prostatic Diseases, and on the AUA Advisory Committee on Urology to the National Institutes of Health. He was also instrumental in the creation of the AUA clinical practice guidelines program.
