Attorney General Ken Paxton Launches Campaign For Re-Election
Conservative Republican Points to Track Record of Success in Defending the Rule of Law
AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton formally announced his campaign for re-election today. The conservative Republican delivered his announcement via a video message to his campaign supporters across Texas.
Paxton said, "Without a doubt, it's been my greatest honor to serve the people of Texas as your Attorney General. Much has been accomplished since I took office three years ago, but there's much more to be done."
Attorney General Paxton has been recognized as a national leader in standing up to executive authority abuse and federal overreach. Upon taking office in January of 2015, Attorney General Paxton immediately went to work on his campaign promises to preserve the Constitution, help secure our international border, fight back against Obamacare, defend the 2nd Amendment, and protect the sanctity of human life. Paxton added, "I'm proud of my proven track record of success because I'm not afraid to stand my ground and fight for what's right."
Attorney General Paxton has led the effort to enforce the 10th Amendment and vigorously fought back against efforts by former President Obama that infringed upon Texas' state sovereignty. Paxton was the leader in the effort to stop Obama's illegal amnesty order and handed his administration its single biggest legal defeat. Paxton has also been a prominent voice in the defense of religious liberty, the support of voter integrity and voter ID legislation, and 1st Amendment challenges across Texas and the nation. Paxton added, "My office has been and will continue to be vigilant in cracking down on child predators and human traffickers who commit unspeakable crimes against children and the helpless."
Attorney General Paxton graduated from Baylor University, where he served as student body president, earning a B.A. in psychology and an M.B.A. After receiving a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, he worked as an attorney at Strasburger & Price, LLP, in-house counsel for J.C. Penney Company, and headed up his own law firm for 14 years in McKinney.
First elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2002, Attorney General Paxton represented House District 70 for 10 years, one of the fastest-growing regions in the state. In 2012, he was elected to the Texas State Senate, representing Senate District 8 in Collin and Dallas counties.
He met his wife Angela, a guidance counselor at Legacy Christian Academy in Frisco, while they were students at Baylor. The Paxtons have four children: Tucker, Abby, Mattie, and Katie. They are members of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. For more information, please visit the campaign website at www.kenpaxton.com.
