With more than three decades of experience in commercial litigation, Brown has enjoyed an impressive career, successfully trying a wide range of oil and gas matters before state and federal courts. Before joining Burleson, he worked as Senior Attorney of BP America, Inc.
Managing Partner Rick Burleson said Brown brings to the firm a wealth of experience from years of working as an in-house lawyer in the energy industry. His unique perspective and comprehensive background will further strengthen the firm's full-service litigation practice.
"Gary is one of the top oil and gas litigators in the country," he explained. "The insight he brings from his work as a Senior Attorney at BP America, combined with his extensive knowledge of industry-related legal disputes, makes him a perfect fit for Burleson and a great addition to our firm."
Randy Burton, a Partner in Burleson's Houston office, added that Brown's reputation and breadth of experience would make him the cornerstone of any energy litigation practice.
"I've known Gary for a number of years," he said. "When he announced his departure from BP America, many of Houston's finest law firms beat a path to his door. We're proud that he chose Burleson for his practice and couldn't be happier to have him with the firm."
Prior to working with BP America, Brown was a Partner in the Commercial Litigation Group of Adams & Reese LLP. Before that, he spent nine years at Conoco, Inc. as Assistant General Counsel of the North and South American upstream business, and 10 years in the Special Litigation Group of DuPont, where he handled a number of cases involving product liability. He played an important role in the development of DuPont's Law Firm Partnering program as well as its Minority Law Firm program.
Brown has held leadership positions with the National Bar Association, American Bar Association, Houston Bar Association, Appleseed Project, and Just the Beginning Foundation. In addition to serving as the President of the Minority In-House Counsel of America, he has also held positions on the boards of several Houston-based organizations.
Brown is admitted to practice in Texas and Kentucky. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Louisville.
