Attorney for Burge Torture Victims Available for Comment, Analysis During Rogue Cop's Trial
Jury Selection Begins Monday on Charges that Burge Perjured Himself in Connection with Torture Spree
CHICAGO, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Locke Bowman, an attorney who has led efforts to bring disgraced former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge to justice for the torture he unleashed on more than 100 African-American suspects, will be available for comment and analysis on the trial of the rogue cop, which begins with jury selection on Monday.
Burge is facing perjury charges for lying under oath about his involvement in acts of torture he and his underlings inflicted on black suspects, forcing many of them to submit bogus confessions to crimes they didn't commit, leading to their wrongful conviction and imprisonment.
As Executive Director of the Roderick MacArthur Justice Center at Northwestern University, Bowman has represented Burge victims, successfully overturning several convictions and obtaining financial restitution for the gross injustices the victims incurred.
Bowman is also a former criminal defense attorney who can offer insight and perspective on both sides of the case as the trial evolves.
