Attorney Eli V. Hammond Featured as a Divorce Expert on E!
Los Angeles family law firm, Claery & Hammond, LLP, is pleased to announce that Eli Hammond is being included as a divorce expert on the TV show, The Second Wives Club on E!
LOS ANGELES, July 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- A Certified Family Law Specialist at Claery & Hammond, LLP, Attorney Eli V. Hammond was featured on the new hit E! TV show, The Second Wives Club. His extensive knowledge of California divorce law, especially as it applies to no-fault divorce and community property principles, was included in the show as expert information.
Attorney Hammond shared his legal knowledge regarding divorces in Episode 8 of the reality TV show, which was titled "Game Over," and was the season finale.
During his time on the TV show, attorney Hammond shed light on what it means for California to be a "no-fault divorce" state. Traditionally, when filing for a divorce the spouse seeking the separation had to cite a reason for ending the marriage. This reason was typically a transgression of one spouse or the other, such as infidelity, cruelty, or abandonment. A no-fault divorce means there does not need to be any specific reason for a couple to divorce, the record can simply cite "irreconcilable differences." The goal was to reduce hostility between divorcing couples and to streamline the divorce process.
California was the first of many states to become a "no-fault divorce" state. Currently, 17 states do not allow divorce petitioners to allege blame. These states are Wisconsin, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Nebraska, Montana, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Kentucky, Kansas, Iowa, Indiana, Hawaii, Florida, Colorado, and California.
While sharing general information with viewers, Eli V. Hammond also explained the California Community Principle, which states that generally all property acquired during a marriage is considered joint, or community property. That being said, in most cases when a couple divorces, this joint property is divided equally. To learn more about Attorney Eli V.
