Attention Ladies! Announcing the Inaugural Nike Women's Marathon Half to Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Washington D.C.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Sept. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the past eight years, the Nike Women's Marathon and -- Half Marathon -- a Race to Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in San Francisco, has become one of the biggest races of its kind in the world. Building on its success and popularity, Nike and LLS are now excited to announce an expansion of this partnership to Washington, D.C.
The inaugural Nike Women's Marathon Half in Washington, D.C., is scheduled for April 28, 2013.
Since the inaugural event in 2004, the San Francisco race has attracted more than 120,000 runners and garnered more than $118 million to help LLS fund blood cancer research and patient services. Most of those funds have been raised by participants who train through LLS's Team In Training (TNT) endurance sports charity training program.
LLS and Nike anticipate the same enthusiastic reception for this new event.
"From start to finish, the Nike Women's Marathon is a celebration of the spirit of women, joining together for the common cause of beating cancer, while also achieving their personal goals," said LLS CEO John Walter. "Like San Francisco, Washington, D.C. is a premier destination, and the race course will showcase the historic landmarks of our nation's capital."
Participants will again have the choice to train with TNT and benefit from four to five months of personalized training with certified coaches while enjoying the camaraderie of a supportive team environment. In return, TNT participants raise funds to help make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families. With TNT Flex, participants can choose an online option for training.
In its 9th year, the San Francisco Nike Women's Marathon will take place on October 14, 2012.
