Realtors® from across Florida will attend the state association's 97th annual convention on Aug. 14-18, 2013, at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando. The event features more than 35 educational sessions from top industry speakers on topics like effective negotiation, property management, working with global referrals, lead generation, developing a real estate niche and more. For example, Kelvin Manning, associate director of NASA's Kennedy Space Center, will discuss how diversity in the workplace strengthens business; Doug Devitre will explain how technology can save money and time; and real estate coach Bernice Ross, Ph.D, will offer tips on finding business success.
"Florida Realtors' annual Convention & Trade Expo provides outstanding value to any Realtor interested in the latest technology, trends and best business practices," says 2013 Florida Realtors President Dean Asher, broker-owner with Don Asher & Associates Inc. in Orlando. "It's a can't-miss-this opportunity for our Realtor members across the state. Over the course of five days, the convention offers inspiration and motivation, education sessions, networking with real estate colleagues and exciting entertainment – all designed to boost your business and renew your enthusiasm for our profession."
A highlight of this year's convention will be the chance to meet The Property Brothers – twins Drew and Jonathan Scott, stars of such HGTV series as "The Property Brothers," "Buying and Selling," and a new show called "Brother Against Brother," premiering July 21 at 10 p.m. The Scott brothers will share stories of life in front of – and behind – the camera on their hit TV shows, and discuss their secrets for success during the general session on Aug. 16, beginning at 12:15 p.m.
The general session includes a 15-minute question-and-answer period, plus a 30-minute autograph and photo session. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., cash lunches will be available just outside the ballroom where the Scotts will be speaking. One ticket to the general session is included with each full convention member registration. If The Property Brothers General Session does not sell out, tickets may be purchased by Realtor members for $35. The cost is $50 for non-members.
Convention-goers should be ready to rock and roll during "A Night in Chicago" as the band Brass Transit delivers the ultimate Chicago experience on Aug. 15, from 8:30-11 p.m. The group features a world-class horn section, an electric guitar virtuoso, a dynamic rhythm section and vocal performances you'll have to hear to believe. Brass Transit includes veterans of Hall-of-Fame rock and soul acts like the Drifters, Sam and Dave, Aretha Franklin, Frankie Valli, Del Shannon, and the Mamas and the Papas.
The "Night in Chicago" concert is co-sponsored by Florida Realtors and Florida Realtors PAC (Political Action Committee). Realtors registered for full convention receive one complimentary ticket for the event. Additional tickets can be purchased by any attendee for $30 and will be sold until 4 p.m. on Aug. 14, or as long as tickets remain available.
Other convention highlights include the Trade Expo with more than 150 booths showcasing the latest real estate products and technology. Expo hours are Aug. 15, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Aug. 16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Keynote Awards Luncheon takes place Aug. 15 from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. and features the talents of juggler, comedian, magician and entertainer Frank Miles. During the awards presentation, Florida Realtors will recognize the dedication and achievements of outstanding Realtors this year, including the winners of the Realtor of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year.
