Attack in Erbil will only strengthen anti-ISIS alliance, says Kurdistan Regional Government
WASHINGTON, April 20, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Friday April 17 at 5:45 pm local time, a car bomb exploded in front of a café in the Ankawa district of Erbil, between Ankawa Police Station and the US Consulate compound.
KRG Representative to the US Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman said, "Our thoughts go out to those killed and wounded in this incident."
"The attack demonstrates that the coalition fighting ISIS is winning on the battlefront and the terrorists are seeking other ways to undermine the stability of the region. In that too ISIS will be defeated."
"The attack today, like all ISIS attacks against our society, was an attempt by the terrorist organization to shake our resolve and fracture the longstanding partnership with the United States and other coalition allies. Unfortunately for them this tactic will only strengthen our efforts to defeat once and for all its radical ideology and barbaric way of life. Desperate cowards will go to desperate measures to inflict fear on innocent civilians."
The explosion killed two and injured eight. The Ministry of the Interior is conducting an investigation to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The KRG reiterates its assurances that Erbil and the Kurdistan Region remain safe and secure.
