Atmel SAM3U Flash MCU Selected in EE Times Top 10 Best Products of 2009
ARM-based microcontroller selected for high-speed USB, firmware protection, differential input ADCand a 1.62-V core voltage for high-end communication
SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), a leader in microcontroller- and touch-based solutions, today announced that Atmel's SAM3U microcontroller (MCU) has made the EE Times 10 Best Products of 2009. The EE Times Top 10 products are selected based on the number of click-throughs on the EE Product Center web site. The products with the most click-throughs make the list. The complete product review is available at http://www.eeproductcenter.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=217701079.
"What differentiates our Cortex-M3-based products from our competition is that we've increased substantially the data rates on communication links including high-speed (480 Mbps) USB, 192 Mbps SD/SDIO, 384 Mbps MMC and 48 Mbps SPI, while the higher bandwidth requirements are supported by a data speedway built on a proven ARM9-type infrastructure. The data speedway consists of a multi-layer AHB bus, DMA on almost all peripherals, and segmented memories that enable parallel data transfer and processing," said Jacko Wilbrink, marketing director of ARM-based products at Atmel Corporation.
"We are honored to be selected in the EE Times Top 10 Best Products of 2009," Wilbrink concluded.
Atmel's SAM3U family consists of 12 Cortex®-M3 based Flash microcontrollers with dual-bank Flash, External Bus Interface (EBI), high-speed USB device, SD/SDIO/MMC interface, 8-channel each with 10- and 12-bit ADC, the latter with integrated Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA), differential and single-ended input to remove external OpAmps and one Msps sample rate, 4 UARTs, 5 SPI, 2 I2C, I2S, timers, PWM, 128-bit unique ID, and power and reset management. The SAM3U's supply voltage ranges from 1.62 V to 3.6 V, a feature not commonly found on Cortex-M3-based MCUs.
The SAM3U 96 MHz operating frequency and peripheral set makes it a unique Cortex-M3 device suited for applications with intensive communications requirements, such high-speed gateways in industrial, medical, data processing and consumer applications.
