AtlantiCare Heart Heroes group donates Cardiac Science AED to Atlantic City public access defibrillation program
Powerheart AED is 100th AED donated by volunteer group since 2002
WAUKESHA, Wis., Aug. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cardiac Science Corporation, an Opto Circuits group company and a global leader in automated external defibrillators (AEDs), was recently honored to have its Powerheart® AED represent the 100th AED donated by the AtlantiCare Heart Heroes, a volunteer group that raises funds through the AtlantiCare Foundation to place AEDs in the community.
The AED was donated to the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) Boardwalk Ambassadors July 23 on the boardwalk in Atlantic City.

"When your mission is to make communities safer by raising funds and donating AEDs, people take notice," said Al Ford, Cardiac Science General Manager and Vice President of Sales / Marketing. "We are proud to supply Powerheart G3 AEDs for the AtlantiCare Heart Heroes program and wish them continued success in making southern New Jersey heart safe."
AEDs help in restoring a normal heart rhythm in victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Audible and/or visual prompts guide the user through the process.
The 100 donated AEDs, many of which are Powerheart AEDs, have gone to schools, police and fire departments, municipalities, community organizations, parks, businesses, and places of worship. Typically, the Heart Heroes fund a portion of the AED and community groups and/or organizations provide the remaining funds. However, to mark the 100th donation, AtlantiCare covered the full cost of the AED.
"The ambassadors — and all of our community partners who now have AEDs — are helping AtlantiCare raise awareness about the importance of prompt care for sudden cardiac arrest, and demonstrating their commitment to the well-being of our community," said David Tilton, president and CEO, AtlantiCare.
This is the second AED AtlantiCare has presented to CRDA. The first donated defibrillator has been used on eight occasions to resuscitate people.
