"This significant milestone is a great achievement for our Mid-Cap Growth Team," says Jack Markwalter, chairman and CEO of Atlantic Trust. "Importantly, it exemplifies our firm's ongoing commitment to investment excellence for our clients."
The philosophy and process the Atlantic Trust Mid-Cap Team employs have generated a successful long-term track record for the Strategy. The Strategy has taken on less risk, and exhibited lower volatility, than its mid-cap growth benchmark.*
"Over the years, Atlantic Trust has maintained a strong allocation to mid-cap equities within our asset allocation strategy, and we continue to hold that position today," said David Donabedian, CFA, chief investment officer for Atlantic Trust. "Mid-cap stocks have historically offered greater stability than their smaller peers and greater returns than both their smaller and larger peers."**
The Atlantic Trust Mid-Cap Growth Equity Strategy is co-managed by Fred Weiss, CFA, and Jay Pearlstein, CFA. Cathy Becker, CFA, and Bryan Reilly are also core members of the team, receiving research support from eight additional investment professionals at the firm.
Fred Weiss became co-portfolio manager of the strategy at its inception in July 1992. Prior to joining the firm in 1989, Weiss was a vice president and senior analyst with Adams, Harkness & Hill. He brings more than 32 years of industry experience to the portfolio and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard College and a Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School. Weiss holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society.
