ATK Agrees to Multi-Million Dollar Contract to Produce Composite Aft Fan Cases for Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97
ATK Recognized as Aerospace Supplier of the Year by Rolls-Royce
ARLINGTON, Va., June 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ATK (NYSE: ATK) announced the award of a contract valued at more than $50 million from Rolls-Royce plc, United Kingdom, to produce aft fan composite cases for the new Trent XWB-97 engine. The contract has the potential to grow to more than $200 million. This Rolls-Royce engine is the sole engine now available to power the Airbus A350-1000 aircraft variant.

The life-of-type contract with Rolls-Royce further highlights ATK's key role as a provider of large-scale composite components for commercial aircraft and engines. ATK has been producing aft fan cases for the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 engines since 2009.
"This is a great step in continuing ATK's successful partnership with Rolls-Royce. We are proud partners with Rolls-Royce on the Trent XWB engine and look forward to a sustained long-term future together supporting the A350 program. Our demonstrated success in composite fabrication technology provides our customers with quality products in this competitive industry," said Joy de Lisser, vice president and general manager of ATK's Aerospace Structures division. "We are pleased Rolls-Royce recognized ATK's performance with their Aerospace Supplier of the Year Award and we are confident we will continue to deliver excellence for years to come."
ATK's patented automated composites processing technology significantly reduces fabrication costs, while dramatically improving the quality of the final product. The use of this technology allows ATK to produce consistently high-quality composite production parts, essential to meet Rolls-Royce's standards of quality excellence, product robustness, efficiency and reduced life-cycle costs.
The contract award expands ATK's portfolio of high-quality composite components, which now includes fan containment and structural cases for commercial aircraft engines, stringers and frames for commercial aircraft fuselages and wing stiffeners, solid rocket motor casings, launch vehicle payload fairings, military aircraft wing skins for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and composite rotor tubes for nuclear power generation.
The first ATK-fabricated Trent XWB-97 aft fan case is scheduled for delivery in late 2013. Support of the Rolls-Royce design effort and initial production of the Trent XWB-97 aft fan cases will begin immediately at ATK's Aircraft Commercial Center of Excellence (ACCE) facility in Clearfield, Utah.
