ATIXA has provided a grant to transform SCOPE's mission from a general prevention-focused membership association to an open resource addressing the national dialogue on how best to educate and train to prevent sexual violence, sexual harassment, stalking and relationship/intimate partner violence in schools and colleges.
Effective today, SCOPE's focus has been narrowed to create a powerful, targeted and synergistic sexual violence and interpersonal violence training and prevention resource. Membership is no longer necessary. SCOPE's resources are now available to all.
ATIXA is the nation's pre-eminent resource for compliance with Title IX, providing training and policies pertaining to campus sexual violence, sexual harassment, intimate partner violence and stalking. SCOPE has served as a key clearinghouse and resource for sexual and relationship violence prevention professionals in K-12 and higher education. This grant harnesses the strengths of both organizations to help make our campuses and schools safer.
Functionally, SCOPE will become a prevention arm of ATIXA, instead of a stand-alone membership association. All of SCOPE's resources will become available to ATIXA's members. ATIXA Executive Director, Brett A. Sokolow, Esq. spoke about this transformative development, "ATIXA resources are maxed with helping campuses to achieve Title IX compliance in terms of campus structure, policy and response. We sense the deep need in the field to address prevention as a function of compliance, and feel the push to do so at the federal level, but ATIXA's ability to address prevention is limited by the daily crush of its current activities. SCOPE has already established its prevention know-how and brand, and is already a sister organization to ATIXA under The NCHERM Group. This fusion of both organizations will now permit SCOPE to target its focus and invest in deeper research and development of prevention modalities crucial to compliance with Title IX and the Campus SaVE Act, without having to rely on membership support driving its budget and research capacities."
ATIXA provides a professional association for school and college Title IX Coordinators and administrators who are interested in serving their districts and campuses more effectively. Since 1972, Title IX has proved to be an increasingly powerful leveling tool, helping to advance gender equity in schools and colleges. Title IX's benefits can be found in promoting equity in academic and athletics programs, preventing hostile environments on the basis of sex, prohibiting sexual harassment and sexual violence, protecting from retaliation and remedying the effects of other gender-based forms of discrimination. Every school district and college in the United States is required to have a Title IX Coordinator who oversees implementation, training and compliance with Title IX. ATIXA brings campus and district Title IX coordinators and administrators into professional collaboration to explore best practices, share resources and advance the worthy goal of gender equity in education.
ATIXA has more than 1,300 active members, and has provided training on Title IX, civil rights, discrimination and investigations to more than 3,000 school and college administrators across the country.
