TurningPoint provides rehabilitation services for women recovering from breast cancer surgery. After surgery many women need treatment to regain their strength and range of motion. The organization promotes and advocates evidence-based rehabilitation techniques and is sponsoring a national conference on the subject in Atlanta next month.
Volunteers at Northside Hospital Auxiliary create care bags for women after surgery through its Network of Hope program. The care bags include a drain belt to hold the various tubes, a squeeze ball to regain strength and a stuffed lion named Courage.
Associates from DS Waters® raised $10,000 by paying $5 to wear jeans every Friday throughout 2013. They presented a check for $10,000 to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. As a national partner, Athena is donating over 5,500 cases of bottled water at 30 walks across the country this month.
"These contributions not only help fund research to find a cure in the future, they help women who are fighting for their lives today," stated Tom Harrington, President and CEO, DS Waters of America.
Earlier this year, Athena Partners Foundation established the Athena Endowed Professorship of Breast Cancer Research at UW Medicine, Seattle, Wa. The endowed professorship, created with a $500,000 contribution, named Dr. Nora Disis as its first recipient. Dr. Disis is working on a vaccine which will prevent the reoccurrence of breast and ovarian cancers.
Created for the Cause® by a breast cancer survivor, Athena is the only bottled water that supports the fight against breast cancer 365 days a year. The brand is owned by DS Waters of America, a leading provider of bottled drinking water, brewed beverages and water filtration services. Since 2003, Athena has contributed $1.6 million dollars to the cause and is closing in on its goal of $2 million by the end of 2014.
