CLEVELAND, Aug. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&F is expanding its operations in India, where it is opening a 90,000-square-foot (8,400-square-meter) state-of-the-art steel processing facility to take advantage of the country's vast resources and rapid civic development.
AT&F has opened a new facility in Chakan, near the city of Pune in Maharashtra, to be a dependable local supplier to multinational construction equipment OEMs that have begun operating in the region. Based in Cleveland, Ohio, AT&F has established itself as one of the United States' leading fabricators, gaining a reputation for its large size capabilities and high quality standards. The new facility, expected to begin production in August, will be able to produce steel components and assemblies, with finishing and coatings, up to 10 tons and to lengths of 42 feet (13 meters). "In addition to existing customers that are moving to the region, there is great potential to develop relationships with other manufacturers," says Chris van Raalten, Director of International Business Operations. "There is a definite need for a steel processing company with our capabilities and capacity in India. We can provide knowledge, experience, quality and on-time delivery with the implementation of our proven management and quality assurance systems."
In line with its current operations, AT&F's main business development efforts for the new facility have been in the mining and construction industries.
"Our facility will produce components for products such as frames for mining equipment, electrical generators and cranes. In general, AT&F will provide heavy-duty equipment components that require high-precision processing such as cutting, forming and welding," says van Raalten. "We will have similar capabilities as our other facilities. The component can arrive at your plant and go directly into your production line."
The Chakan facility is not AT&F's first venture in India. In 2010, the company established itself with the startup of the infrastructure project management group, which manages and executes steel construction for port infrastructure projects, power plants and bridge construction projects in the country. As civic expansion continues in India, AT&F is actively working to grow this part of its business as well.
To that end, AT&F has worked hard to stay a step ahead of its customers, investing in new facilities and equipment to better serve customers' needs. In addition, the company invests in its people, devoting resources to talent development, safety training and wellness events. AT&F's credo, "We invest in customer success," holds true in India. The opening of the plant, in conjunction with the expansion of the project group, will result in shared success for all — AT&F's customers, India's infrastructure development, and the company itself.
"Ultimately, whatever we are able to do to engage our customers in that part of the world, that's what we're going to do," says van Raalten. "We're very excited to have an operation in India."
