ATF Offers Reward in Gun Shop Burglaries
25 Firearms Stolen from Columbus Gun Shop
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the theft of firearms from Buy Here Sell Here, 1257 W. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio. The burglaries occurred at approximately 5 a.m., Sept. 4 and at approximately midnight, Sept. 5.
ATF and the Columbus Police Department are investigating the theft of 25 firearms during these two burglaries. Investigators have developed information regarding this burglary; however, they need additional information from the public that may assist in solving the case. These firearms pose a potential danger and investigators are seeking information that would aid in the resolution of this investigation.
"Through experience, we know that stolen firearms are used in furtherance of drug and gang related activities, as well as are utilized by violent criminals to perpetrate additional crimes," said Kirk Howard, Resident Agent in Charge, ATF Columbus Field Office. "Law enforcement is seeking assistance from the public in locating these weapons and identifying those responsible."
Anyone with information is asked to call the ATF crime gun hotline 1-800-ATF-GUNS (1-800-283-4867) or the Columbus Police Department at (614) 461-8477. The ATF hotline is toll free and callers may remain anonymous.
