DALLAS, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ATERAS & M Corp announced today the successful conversion of the State of California Employment Development Department (EDD) IDMS COBOL applications to COBOL CICS DB2. More than 3 million lines of code and over 18,000 components were converted. Ten IDMS databases were combined into a single DB2 database. EDD's single-client IDMS database was the nation's largest integrated IDMS database management system, maintaining 30 years of unemployment and disability insurance claims records.

EDD provides unemployment and disability benefits every month to millions of residents. EDD's legacy system was exceeding its limits and becoming inflexible. The need for a proven legacy migration solution to convert 4 billion rows of data, including records for more than 18 million people, was critical. M Corp and ATERAS were the selected solution.
M Corp and ATERAS' solution uses a fully developed and field-proven legacy migration model to execute complex legacy system conversion projects that stabilize environments and move organizations to modern technologies. M Corp leverages both the automated conversion tools from ATERAS and their own fully developed testing methodologies using HP Quality Center. This proven combination provides a complete and seamless transition to a modern platform for businesses worldwide.
When the system went live, transactions for a total of $135 million were processed with no conversion issues reported. The project was completed without interrupting service to clients. The completed conversion enables the EDD development staff to work more efficiently. Source code changes from the development team went from weeks to days.
ATERAS leveraged its automated transformation tool suite, DB-Shuttle, and proven delivery methodology for the project. The solution included an automated assessment and automated conversion of the Database, Data and Application code. The applications and databases were converted with 100% functional equivalency including the retention of all business rules. No proprietary libraries, third party libraries or other software will be required to run, use or maintain the applications after the conversion. The end result is a quality solution with an n-tier architecture that is easy to maintain and has high performance in the new environment.
"The success with the EDD project is a direct result of our automated migration technology and synergistic partnership with M Corp," said Scott Miller, CEO and president of ATERAS. The company has been converting legacy systems since 2000. "Our partnership with M Corp provides an end-to-end solution for organizations."
M Corp was the primary vendor, responsible for the delivery and testing of the conversion. M Corp managed five federal extension modifications to the system during the conversion project. The Sacramento-based contractor completed the project on time and under budget, leading to almost $1 billion in stimulus funds for California.
"Our approach to this project and partnership with ATERAS resulted in complete success for EDD. From the automated ATERAS technology to M Corp's project management and implementation of federal UI extensions, I'm very proud of all we accomplished on this project," said Chuck Czajkowski, M Corp partner.
