MANASSAS, Va., Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. (Leidos Biomed) awarded ATCC, a global leader in biological materials management and standards, a two-year base option subcontract to manage and operate one of the largest repositories of biological specimens in the world, in Frederick, Md. The subcontract is valued up to $32 million over a seven-year period if all options are executed. This award will be fully funded under the Leidos Biomed prime contract HHSN261200800001E with the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health.
Under this subcontract, ATCC will receive, store, and distribute biospecimens to basic and clinical investigators supporting cancer and infectious disease research, as well as manage operational logistics and costs.

The NCI at Frederick Central Repository is part of the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research, a federal national laboratory sponsored by NCI and operated under contract by Leidos Biomed.
The NCI at Frederick Central Repository is one of the largest repositories in the world with an inventory of more than 15 million clinical specimens. It serves as a national resource for the biomedical community by providing biospecimen collection management to the NCI and other government organizations.
