ATC Offers Free Peer-to-Peer and Macintosh Forensics Training for State and Local Law Enforcement
ITHACA, N.Y., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- With a grant from the National Institute of Justice, ATC-NY is bringing P2P Forensics and Macintosh Forensics Training to state and local law enforcement at no cost to participants. Upcoming sites include Wichita, KS, July 28, 29; Portland, OR, August 5, 6; and Atlanta, GA, September 22, 23.
In addition to general training in P2P Forensics and Macintosh Forensics, the following forensic tools are provided to participants at no charge:
- P2P Marshal(TM): a tool which automatically detects, extracts and analyzes P2P evidence on a hard drive
- Mac Marshal(TM): a tool which analyzes Mac OS X file system images
P2P Marshal and Mac Marshal perform their tasks in a forensically sound way and maintain an audit trail. Results are presented in an easily readable form on-screen and reports can be produced in CSV, RTF, PDF and HTML formats.
These courses are co-taught by members of the ATC staff who developed the products, and Law Enforcement Investigators. For further information about details and locations on the training, please visit:

P2P Marshal and Mac Marshal are currently being used by local, state, federal and international law enforcement to investigate cyber crimes. Without automated tools, a forensic investigator's job to find evidence of illegal file sharing and distribution is manually intensive and time-consuming. These forensic tools greatly help investigators reduce the time required for the analysis process. These tools are also useful to private corporations for compliance checking. For example, a company that prohibits peer-to-peer software on its corporate systems could use P2P Marshal to confirm such compliance.
